I recently received and installed the CS4 Design Premium and this was the first piece I put together with the new Photoshop. 4. This number has always had a certain significance to my family. I have three siblings, all boys. Four of us. Throughout our childhood we all seemed to gravitate toward that number for some reason or another. One year when we were still playing Little League, my older brother Ty and I each chose 4 as our baseball number independently of the other and the digit stuck as the sought-after number...

4. This number has always had a certain significance to my family. I have three siblings, all boys. Four of us. Throughout our childhood we all seemed to gravitate toward that number for some reason or another. One year when we were still playing Little League, my older brother Ty and I each chose 4 as our baseball number independently of the other and the digit stuck as the sought-after number for the family from that point forward. When the two of us finally got a chance to play on the same team during his final year in Legion ball, Ty took seniority and kept his number, while I settled for and eventually stuck with 24. It was more than a baseball number though. I remember addressing the number in seemingly pointless yet strangely superstitious ways. For example, I recently came across a burned cd I had put together at some point in high school, and sure enough, the best song on the disc was track #4. Now, I could get into the number's significance the number has in countless passwords and lock combinations, but I'd rather protect myself from the creepers out there. And, I'm sure the other Paul boys can fill you in on other occurrences of the number in their/our lives. In any case, there is a significance. So, when I was strolling around the empty parking garage with seemingly identically bare floors, it only made sense to stop on floor 4 and put this image together. Besides, the other numbers just aren't as typographically appealing...

So, I've turned into a night owl. I've always known I had the potential to do so, but I never thought I'd take on my good friend Mattie Meier's habits of staying awake during the early hours of the night and sleeping until noon ... on a regular basis. But I have. I don't know what it is, but something about the stillness of the night injects a wave of creativity in me that sometimes forces me...

So, I've turned into a night owl. I've always known I had the potential to do so, but I never thought I'd take on my good friend Mattie Meier's habits of staying awake during the early hours of the night and sleeping until noon ... on a regular basis. But I have. I don't know what it is, but something about the stillness of the night injects a wave of creativity in me that sometimes forces me to tear myself from the computer or my viewfinder to get some sleep. I just love being awake while the city around me sleeps; I'm not sure why. This image comes from a late night excursion I took this past weekend. I had just taken out the trash at about one when I noticed the fog catching the city lights just west of my house. So, I grabbed my camera bag and headed out. I ended up stopping by the parking garage downtown for a few shots. This is the first; there are more to come.

To conclude our week in the Rockies I thought I'd bring us back to the location of my first post, though processed in a different manner. I still have a few panoramas from the trip that I have yet to stitch together, but I'll save those for another day. More tomorrow, of course, but of a different variety...
